The Swamp at Lettuce Lake

Deep within this enchanted land
Where moccasins hide in tangled vines
And domes become mystical creatures.
I see this world within a world
Of a land of time forgotten.

No pavements crowded with cars,
Nor drive-through McGolden arches.
Just spotted fields of water lettuce
And moss covered cypress branches.

The gators rise-up from the deep,
Eyes glowing in the floating shade.
Slithering through trees and domes
In the brackish tea-colored waters.

The mighty moss covered oaks,
With their twisted, out-stretched arms.
Shading the crying limpkin,
While the egrets perch up high.

After the early morning rain,
When the sun peers through the haze.
Colors and their reflections awaken
to a majestic hidden world.

Deep within this enchanted land
Of domes and mystical creatures.
I see this world within a world
Of a land of time forgotten.
